zomato on my mind

Food- that’s one of the driving force of my life.. most of the time I am eating and when I am not eating I am thinking about food. And whenever I am thinking about food, zomato is the first thing that comes to my mind.  Zomato has helped me so many times to explore the different food options around me or at any other place I am. I usually don’t express my love for things easily, but you zomato guys have lured me into writing this with the assured gift that I am eagerly waiting for.  So here’s the list:
Things I love:

My food guide: I like to explore- people and places and food.  For food I don’t need to do a lot as I always have my food guide with me-zomato.  Zomato lists so many food joints in almost every area. Even if I am new to a place and have no idea where to go, I can always go to zomato and choose my location and get a list of lot of places to eat at.

The details:  I love the details zomato provides of every food joint- the ratings, address, menu, photos etc. I love the different filters as it helps me search exactly what I want especially the budget and cuisine one.  The reviews just make it easier for me to decide what to go for and what are the high and low points of the place, for that I owe a big thanks to you and all the food lovers who share their reviews :*.

The collections: zomato just blew my mind with those newly added collections. I am totally in love with those. I can choose from so many collections according to my mood without getting into detailed search. That feature of yours is just amazing.

Also, I loved the primetime yummies album of yours, made me love food and zomato even more.

Things I would like to add:

Little snack corners: I would like to see more of  the little chat corners , stalls and such small openings in the listings as well coz some places may be small in size but are great on the food they serve and I don’t want them to go unknown from the amazing food lover following that you have.

Segmented rating: The restaurants are rated combined for the ambience food service and other factors. I would like a segmented rating i.e separate rating for every factor that counts for the overall rating. Though some of the reviewers do rate them separately I would like to see this as an added feature.

 Specials: Also I would love it if you mention the must haves or specials of every food joint. Though some reviewers do mention some things, but it would be better if it is incorporated as a part of the basic information of every place so that I don’t miss on something really great just because nobody wrote about it.

Apart from these, I would recommend you to do keep organising such events more often.. as it connects us..also I love free goodies (that’s the main reason ;)).

A bridge to many dreams

There are so many things that we come across daily but we just don’t give a good look at it and thus miss the beauty of it. But if you give a little attention to your surroundings you may get a new perspective to look at things.
 I had such an experience lately, when I was heading home from Yamuna Bank Metro station. On the way outside the station, there were big black patches painted on the wall of the metro bridge. I was very amused to see that and was also curious to know about it. So here is the story behind it: 

As the Delhi Metro rumbles from the Yamuna Bank Metro station, something extraordinary takes place under its tracks. The neighbouring slum children gather in front of a patch of wall painted black, under the bridge of Yamuna Bank metro station waiting for the one who gave them the opportunity to follow their dream. The man behind this rudimentary learning space is Rajesh Kumar (40), who is a shopkeeper at Shakarpur. 



One fine day in 2008, when Rajesh was just walking to the metro station, he noticed few children weeding and picking flowers and some just playing in dirt, he then asked them which school they go to, to which he got no answer but just blank faces looking at him. Next day he went to their parents and asked them why the children were not in school, they complained that the school was too far and neither do they have resources to educate their children. He started arguing with the parents who wanted their children to help them at work instead of sending them to school and was able to persuade some of them. Next day he again went to the metro station bridge, cleaned and swept the area and started to teach a few student with whatever resources he had. Since then he have been coming regularly (5 days a week) for 2 hours, along with two other teachers who joined him in this noble cause. The teachers do not only provide their knowledge for free but also all the reading and writing materials, and the rugs the student sit on during the classes. Kumar starts at the basics and goes on to prepare the children for admission to government schools. He started with approximately 140 students, and 70 of them are in government schools now. “They still come here everyday. I manage to keep them ahead of the school curriculum,”  Kumar says with pride.

In Rajesh’s words-“To change the future of these children, education is the only weapon. If they go anywhere in the world, if they have education, they can achieve anything. And without education, they can do nothing.”
